3RD ANNUAL KIDS & CHROME CULMINATES IN GIFTS TO
CHILDREN’S HOME SOCIETY AND STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 3rd Annual Kids & Chrome Benefit Dinner & Auction held during this years’ Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was an eclectic mix of fun, food and festivities all done in the name of enriching the outreach and programs provided by two vital Black Hills non-profit organizations, Children’s Home Society, the “Kids” in the foundation’s moniker, and Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, the “Chrome”. When it was all said and done, Kids & Chrome raised over $100,000.00 in contributions, gifting $70,000.00 for the Children’s Home Society and almost $30,000 to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.
These donations were made possible through Kids & Chrome’s raffle of one-off custom motorcycles donated to the foundation by Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles of Colorado and NYC Choppers, as well as the Kids & Chrome benefit dinner and associated silent and live auctions, which were attended by hundreds of the motorcycle enthusiasts, industry leaders and celebrities at the Spearfish Holiday Inn this past August. The August 8th Kids & Chrome benefit dinner was hosted through the support of dozens of local and national event sponsors like Budweiser, the Kids & Chrome title sponsor, as well as Black Hills Harley-Davidson, the Buffalo Chip, Black Hills Surgery Center, Performance Machine, Lehman Trikes, Baker Drivetrain, Yellow Tail Wine, S&S, Thunder Mt. Custom Cycles, State Publishing & Printing, Sturgis Bike Week, Independent Cycle, BikerNet.com, NYC Choppers and the Cycle Xchange.
“This was just a phenomenal event”, said Jim Burgess, President of the Kids & Chrome Foundation Board. “It was very rewarding to walk into the dinner and see the whole room filled with so many of our friends from the motorcycling community whose kind and generous support of Kids & Chrome allowed us to make these contributions to benefit our kids and preserve the history of motorcycling, each of which play such significant roles in all of our day to day lives.”
Through its donation, Kids & Chrome has provided the Children’s Home Society with funding to support a home, school, and therapy for children, primarily ages 4 to 13, with emotional or behavioral problems. Most are victims of severe abuse and/or neglect. CHS also provides foster care, adoption services, and emergency shelter services for children who are victims of domestic violence. Additionally, through Kids & Chrome’s gift, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, established in 2001, will be provided with the funding necessary to underwrite new museum exhibits and further archiving efforts in order to continue its mission of preserving the great history of motorcycling and honoring the men and women who have advanced the sport and lifestyle.
Kids & Chrome will continue its tradition of helping charities in the Black Hills with the 2008 Kids & Chrome benefit dinner and auction, which will take place during the 2008 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Spearfish Holiday Inn & Convention Center, Spearfish, SD.
